Sharing the support within the community

Recently Lucas shared with us his experience working in the refugee community.

"This has been a testing year for us all, but particularly for the refugees that I have the privilege of working with. Lockdown and isolation have particularly affected this small community.

Recently we assisted a young mother who tearfully told us she could not access nappies for her baby and warm clothes for her children due to isolation. This not just the isolation of the COVID lockdown but the loneliness of making your way in a foreign country in the midst of a crisis. Geelong Mums immediately packed clothing, toiletries, bedding and nappies that were delivered to the family within a few days of my requesting them.

The resilience of the refugee community is an inspiration to us all. The huge smiles and thanks in their eyes when I dropped off the rehomed packages so thoughtfully put together was a joy to see. The support of Geelong Mums underlines that we live and thrive in a community who shares and supports each other. Thank you".
