FAQs

Find the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions here.

Where are you located?  Geelong Mums’ warehouse is located at: 2/110 Balliang Street, South Geelong. We collect donations Please see our opening hours.

Can I just show up at the warehouse?  We like to be ready for your visit and ensure that you don’t make a trip unnecessarily. For that reason we ask that you review what we can rehome before coming to donate. If you cannot make our opnening times we are happy to work with you to find a time that best suits you.

Do you pickup?  We rely on our network of volunteers to bring donations to us, however if you are unable to deliver please ask and we may be able to organise a volunteer to pick up. It depends on what you have to offer, where you live and the availability of volunteers.

What about safety standards?  The following items have mandatory safety standards - prams, strollers, change tables, cots, portacots, highchairs, car restraints, and bouncers. You may like to check our safety standards page to  ensure your donation meets them.

Does my donation have to meet every mandatory standard on your checklist?  No, this is a guide and these standards apply for the sale of new nursery items, and the sale of all cots. For example we re-home prams without red brakes as this is a very recent change to the standard and as long and the brakes work well we are able to re-home the pram. If you are unsure please email us a photo and description (make and model, date and country of manufacture) of these items so that we can be sure of their suitability for re-homing and so that we can download the manual from the manufacturer’s website to give to the new mum.

Do you have a list of what you accept? Please read our current list of what we can and can’t re-home.

Would you have any use for used breastfeeding bras at all?  We recommend that you contact Uplift Bras. For many third world women a bra is unobtainable and unaffordable. Uplift Bras collects new and second hand bras and sends them to places like Fiji and PNG.

Do I need to clean my pram or highchair before donating it to you?  In short – yes please! Geelong Mums is volunteer run, mostly mums working on mum time, so if you don’t clean it someone else has to find time to do so. If you are unsure where to start or how to go about it, please just email us – our volunteers have a wealth of knowledge to share. We post before and after photos on Facebook regularly.

I have a lounge suite/adult clothing/a kitchen sink I would like to donate, is that something you need? We focus on the essential needs of babies and young children. The best way to be alerted to what items we have a need for is via our Facebook page.

Can you accept cash donations?  We sure can. Geelong Mums, as a branch of St Kilda Mums, has been endorsed by the ATO as a Deductible Gift Recipient. This means is that if you donate money to Geelong Mums any donation over $2 is tax deductible and you will receive a receipt to reflect this.

What will you do with cash donations?   We ensure that every quality donation we receive can be re-homed by making it safe and complete. For example we can take a donation of a cot, check that it meet safety standards, buy a brand new mattress, and re-home with a beautiful bundle of pre-loved clothing and bedding, a mobile and a big soft teddy. We also need money to buy new teats for feeding bottles, and to buy new safety harnesses for prams, highchairs, bouncers, change tables etc so they meet the latest safety recommendations. We often repair punctures and replace broken parts on prams. We also have a Gift Shop on our website so that you can choose specifically what you would like to purchase for a family in need such as a cot & mattress or double pram.
